We at the LGBTQ Homeschooling Association know that homeschooling is more than just an educational journey. It's often a lifeline for students who were drowning in the regular school system. When our founder began unschooling it was because that felt like the only way to save her child's life. It can be that big of a deal and she felt like there was no one to help guide her through it. When she went to the local homeschool association they told her that it was ok that her child was trans but that it could never be mentioned or brought up and that they weren't really welcome. She never wanted another family to have to navigate homeschooling alone and so she decided to create her own association. She met with local and affirming pastors, secular homeschooling groups, and started to attend conferences to find out as much as possible that needed to be shared. This is a work of love in progress!
If you have suggestions or questions, please message us and we are always open to new ideas and ways to improve.
If you're here, it's because you love your child. You may not understand them. You may be confused. You may be scared. We understand that. You may have no support, no community, no friends, no family who get that you're just trying to keep your child safe and frankly, alive. We have been there too.
We invite you to take this chance to learn about the LGBTQ community. We won't judge you. We know this is hard and for some people, especially those who have never had the chance to really explore what being lgbtq means or have been taught that it's wrong for some reason, we know that this is so hard. We are so proud of you for being here. Your child is so lucky that you love them so much you're willing to try and support them for who they are.
All Students Are Welcome Here. No matter who you are. How you identify. What your pronouns are and whether those match the outside world's expectations. We value you. You deserve a chance to learn with teachers who value you for being you. You are worth knowing. Your life has value. You are good in your body and in your soul. You have been born to be loved and cared for and laws don't change that, opinions of others don't change that, society doesn't change that.
There are so many reasons parents choose to homeschool. For some it's because public schools may not feel safe and private schools may feel even less safe. For some it's because you want to do education in a way your child learns best. Maybe you are an unschooler or a world schooler and are looking to create a curriculum that fits your family and lifestyle. Whether you are new to this and are looking for how to get started or whether you've been doing this for a while and are looking for support or curriculum options this site is for you and your kids. We are here to support you on your homeschool journey, whoever you are, and wherever you are in your process.
